Step 1. Research your options
Here at Workplace Safety Group, we know just how frustrating the application process can be and that's why we're committed to providing all the assistance we can.
Before making your CHAS application you should take some time to review exactly what you're applying for to ensure that you're making the right choice. For the most part that means knowing which accreditation level you'll need to apply for.
There are three levels of CHAS accreditation available depending on your needs: Standard, Advanced, and Elite.
A Standard CHAS certificate covers health and safety only, while both Advanced and Elite cover a much larger range alongside health and safety:
- CHAS Standard: the entry level. It's an SSIP accreditation. SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) is the group of recognised health and safety schemes, CHAS and SMAS among them, that accept each other's assessments. In plain words: the basic health and safety accreditation most main contractors ask for.
- CHAS Advanced: SSIP plus PAS 91. Everything in Standard, plus PAS 91, the standard set of pre-qualification questions many clients use. It shows you're compliant in other key areas beyond health and safety, like environmental, quality and equality.
- CHAS Elite: the top level. It meets CAS, the Common Assessment Standard: the standard public sector clients and many large main contractors ask for, covering 13 areas of risk management. You need it for public sector work. There's no site visit; it's all done from your documents.
It's important to understand exactly what you need before applying to ensure that you are fully compliant. If your client hasn't said which level they want, ask them, or request a call back and we'll tell you.
Step 2. Provide your documentation
Once you know which level of accreditation you'll be applying for, we can start providing you with CHAS application help. All you need to do is get your instant quote for the level you require (or request a call back), and we'll let you know which documents we need to get your application on the go. Usually that's things like your insurance certificates, company details, and details of your team and their training.
Once we have your documents we'll go through them and write anything that's missing, like risk assessments. When we're sure your application is complete we'll submit it for assessment, taking all the hassle out of your hands. Once we've got what we need from you, we aim to submit within 2 to 3 working days, and it's often sooner.
New to CHAS? As an authorised CHAS affiliate, we can give you a free fast-track. It means CHAS assesses your application in 2 working days instead of the usual 10. (New members only, not renewals.)
Step 3. Get CHAS certified
Once you receive your CHAS certificate you'll be able to start taking advantage of the many benefits that come with being CHAS compliant. You won't need to do anything else on your end. If CHAS comes back with questions, we deal with them. It is really that simple.

FAQs
There are two parts. Our CHAS application help costs £395 to £1,095 +VAT, depending on your level and team size (get your instant quote for your exact price). Your CHAS membership fee is separate: it's set by CHAS and you pay it to CHAS directly.
Once we've got what we need from you, we aim to submit your CHAS application within 2 to 3 working days, and it's often sooner. Then CHAS assesses it. That normally takes 10 working days, but if you're new to CHAS, our free fast-track means CHAS assesses it in 2 working days instead.
Go with what your client asks for. Standard is the entry level (SSIP). Advanced adds PAS 91, the standard pre-qualification questions. Elite meets CAS, the Common Assessment Standard, and you need it for public sector work. Not sure? Request a call back and we'll tell you.
We've got a 100% success rate on all applications. If CHAS comes back with questions, we deal with them. And if your application doesn't get through, you get back the fee you paid us, as long as you've done your part (terms apply).
