From the Army to civvy street
Before civvy street, I was an explosives safety expert in the British Army. In August 2015, at 24, I was diagnosed with cancer and medically discharged. My world was tipped upside down.
I came home to Blackpool with the mammoth task of rebuilding myself. Health and safety was big at the time, so I put my Army payout into an intense course.
I never wanted to be a clipboard warrior.
Did I walk into one of those high-paid jobs? No. No experience, and a certificate so fresh the ink hadn't dried. Naivety wasn't going to feed my young family. So in early 2016 I started my own business, and Workplace Safety Group was born.
My first customer was my Dad
He and my Uncle had a successful concrete saw cutting and diamond drilling business in Manchester. They'd been in the game for years, worked harder than anybody I know, and were bloody good at it.
What they weren't so good at was paperwork, especially health and safety paperwork. So my Dad asked me to "sort out this CHAS thing".
Sorted it I did. And it was easy. They were already doing a lot of what was needed. They just didn't know it, because none of it was written down or put into any kind of system.

They were already doing the work. Nothing was written down.
Ten years building the system
That first job became the start of everything. I've spent the last 10 years developing the system that has gone on to complete thousands of these accreditations, with a 100% success rate.
Now I've built a full system that makes day-to-day health and safety just as simple. It's called SafeGuard. It took me 10 years. I made it just for you.
And it's not just me any more. Emma Mulligan and the team do the same job every day: taking the paperwork off people who'd rather be working.
