What Is Manual Handling?
Manual handling, for all the problems it causes, is a relatively simple thing to understand. At its very basic level, manual handling is the method of moving, transporting, or supporting any kind of load either by bodily force or by hand (i.e. carrying it). A load can be anything at all – if it needs to be moved, it is described as a load.

It’s a startling fact, but over one-third of every work-related injury that occurs comes from a manual handling issue, and the most common injury of all is to the back. This can lead to a lot of lost workdays – over 12 million a year in the UK alone.   • Provide adequate training for all staff members so they can complete any manual handling tasks correctly
